March of Death

x's on my eyes.
the lights are out.
i can't believe with all my hard-spent dollars,
and this is how it all turned out.
lying in my tomb
to shield me from the day.
hands folded neatly 'cross my chest
as if i've got something to say.
but i will tell no tales.
no source of comfort, i.
i will not speak when spoken to.
i cannot tell a lie-
i did it with my li'l axe.
i did it clean and through.
i cannot say to anyone,
"look what you made me do!"
i'm all alone.
nothing can harm.
it's awful dark at six feet deep,
and i'm feeling quite alarmed.
humidity is rising
as hysteria sets in.
i'm starting to breath heavy
as the oxygen runs thin. . .

Silent Movie

Filmed back in 2002 in Lugoff, South Carolina. All I had for the shoot was my analog video camera, tv, vcr, and a cd player. With these powers combined, I knew my editing would either have to be very meticulous, or nonexistant. I opted for the latter. I produced a second-by-second cinematograpy for the soundtrack, Hungarian Rhapsody no. 2 by Franz Liszt, and then shot the film, audibly counting off the seconds until the end of each shot (its a silent film - the audio was dubbed out). I knew I needed some way to make the recording look a little fuzzy and unfocused to mimic as best I could the vintage appearance of the film, so I covered the video camera lens with about 5 or 6 layers of seran wrap, and the result was acceptable. I couldn't figure out how to make decent caption shots, so we ended up just hand-writing the captions of 3x5 flash cards. Once the shooting was done, all that was left was to directly dub the soundtrack onto the video feed in real time and watch it all fall together. Later on, in 2008, after acquiring significantly better editing equipment, namely a MacBook complete with iMovie software, I was able to digitalize the film and add the scratchy vintage film effect.

Moon Over Mujeres

The moon rose over the Caribbean ocean-side beach of Isla Mujeres Christmas Eve of 2007 with an amazing display of colors and shadows.  Immediately I grabbed my camera to capture the view.  These pictures were taken with a prolonged exposure time of approximately 10 seconds and were not doctored afterwards in any way.

Tired. . . so tired. . .

I'm tired. There's something about the air around here that makes me lethargic. I was all piss and vinegar while I was away from home, but as soon as I got off the plane, I noticed the sedative effect that this place has cover me like a wet blanket. Allergies? Doubtful. Heavy work load? No. I do nothing all day, because I'm tired. Maybe the thinner atmosphere accounts for the change. Maybe gravity just pulls harder near the poles. I'll tell you one thing though, when your sleep cycles are as screwed up as mine are from having six months of darkness and six months of 24 hours of daylight, it taxes your system in a way that only those who have lived here can know. Whatever the case, something has to explain why I am surrounded by, and related to only crazy people.
